FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. 312 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, with green decorative blocks, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has a little edge wear. Damp stains to boards and flyleaves browned; otherwise a very good copy. Decorated by ornamental series name on half title and by publisher's device on title page. An account of the life and writings of Rabbi Jacob Joseph of Polonoye (Ukraine) (1710-84), an early writer on Hasidic Judaism. The second part of the work discusses the concept of the Zaddik, or righteous spiritual leader. Samuel Hayim Dresner (1922-2000) was a US conservative rabbi and scholar.
