Synopsis

Before the right honorable the house of peers, in westminster hall, in full parliament, for high crimes and misdemeanours, upon an impeachment, by the knights, citizens and burgesses in parliament assembled, in the name of themselves, and of all the commons of the united kingdom of great britain and ireland. begun the 29th day of april, 1806, and from thence continued, by several adjournments, until the 12th day of june, 1806.

[i] + Title + [vii] table of contents + [ii] advertisement + pp.[5] to 412 + [1], bound together with the Official Reports, Letters and Accounts pertaining to the trial and published during 1805 and 1806, numbering six items and 33 leaves in all. These are, in the order in which they are bound in, {1}. A Further Article of Impeachment. 7th March, 1806. {2. and 3}. A Copy of a Letter from Lord Melville to the Commissioners of Enquiry, and their reply. 3rd April, 1805. {4}. Report from the Committee Appointed to inspect the Journals of the House of Lords, in relation to their Proceedings upon the Impeachment of Henry Viscount Melville. 24th June, 1806. {5}. Notes

Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, at the time First Lord of the Admiralty, was the last man to be impeached in the United Kingdom. He was tried, and subsequently acquitted, on charges of Misappropriation of Public Funds. The text includes the names and verdicts of all the members of the House of Lords, with the names and functions of all those who had a part in the proceedings.
