8vo. 6.5 x 4.5 inches. xxvii + [i] + 354 pp. Bound in brown leather, boards elaborately blind tooled; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting title label, gilt. All edges red. Marbled endpapers. Second free endpaper has been removed. A little wear to extremities, including lower edge and head of spine and slight darkening of top page edges; otherwise a very good clean copy. An analysis and commentary on the Anglican liturgy specifically concerned with the order of Holy Communion, and arranged as a series of lectures. By Edward Meyrick Goulburn (1818-97), orthodox churchman and former headmaster of Rugby, 1849-57. He became a prebendary of St Paul's in 1858, vicar of St John's, Paddington in 1859, and held the office of Dean of Norwich, 1866-89. The work first appeared in The Ecclesiastic, October 1863.
