Minor wear to extremities and foxing of flyleaves with occasional traces elsewhere; otherwise a very good copy. 1966 signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated throughout by text figures in black and red, including diagrams and graphs. Reprint of the first edition published in 1960. An influential study of mathematical language and concepts and the exploration of numbers. Frank William Land (1911-97) was Professor of Mathematics at the University of Hull and a populariser of the subject. The nearly three hundred attractive illustrations in the text are by Margaret Clark.
