Originally published in parts, 1831-35. Thomas Wright (1810-77) was a historian and antiquary who published this work while at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated MA in 1837. According to the DNB, it was an expansion and revision of a work of Philip Morant. George Virtue (1793?-1868) founded a London publishing house which specialised in printing engraved works.
