Spine sunned, front hinge starting to crack, flyleaves browned, edges spotted and scattered marginal foxing; otherwise a very good copy. 1928 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 12 tipped in colour plates with captioned tissue guards, including frontispiece, by Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale. First illustrated Hodder and Stoughton edition of The Golden Treasury, the famous anthology of songs and poems by Francis Palgrave (1824-87), first published in 1861. Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale )1872-1945) was an artist and painter, known for her book illustrations.
