(DNB). The first part includes county and national chroniclers and historians and lives of the monarchs; the second part covers the history of the church, including bishops and their sees, monasteries and universities; the third part deals with national government, the law and coins and medals. William Nicolson (!655-1727) was Bishop of Carlisle, 1702-18 and of Derry, 1718-27. This work was first published in separate parts, c.1696-97 and the author later issued corresponding accounts for Scotland and Ireland. The owner of the book was Sir Charles Grave Hudson, Bart. (1730-1813) of Wanlip Hall, Leics., who was a director of the South Sea Company and High Sheriff of Leicestershire.
