FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo. 7.5 x 5 inches. vii + [i] + 85 + [1] pp. Bound n original green cloth with black titles, in unclipped dust wrapper which has minor edge wear and sunned spine. Edges a little foxed and flyleaves browned, but otherwise a very good copy. 1947 initials on the first free endpaper. The work consists of the Marshall Lectures delivered at Cambridge in the spring of 1947, a reappraisal in the light of recent experience of some of the main principles of economic policy. The first lecture discusses the basic objectives of production and distribution; the second, the rationale of the war economy and its applicability to the problems of transition and peace; the third, an approach to the problems of control in peace time. By Baron Lionel Charles Robbins (1898-1984). Robbins, a free market economist, was a prominent academic member of the LSE and was responsible for the development of the modern university system through his chairmanship of the Committee on Higher Education (Report 1963)
