FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.25 x 5.75 inches. xiii + [i] + 533 +[1] + [2] pp. publisher's advertisements. Bound in original green cloth, gilt. A little wear to extremities, including head and tail of spine and front hinge starting to crack. Some scattered foxing, largely confined to edges and margins, but otherwise a very good copy. Bookplate. Illustrated by double page frontispiece and by 150 text figures. First edition of a standard work on paleobotany, based on fourteen lectures given at University College London in 1896. Henry Dukinfield Scott (1854-1934), botanist was Keeper of the Jodrell Laboratory at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 1892-1906. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1894. Scarce first edition.
