Folio. 18.5 x 13 inches. [2] pp. + 185 leaves of plates. Atlas volume of plates only. Bound in half vellum, with ink spine title (Cicognara Scultura Tavole 185) over mottled boards. Rough cut edges. Extremities worn and spine darkened with some loss at head and tail. Foxing, largely confined to plate margins, but otherwise a very good copy. Small plain armourial bookplate. Illustrated by 185 leaves of etched plates, in three numerical sequences (XLIII + XC + LII). The atlas volume from a seven volume survey of sculpture in Italy from the Renaissance to the work of Antonio Canova (1757-1822), greatly enlarged from the first three volume edition of 1813. The title page states that is a continuation of work by J. B. L. G. Seroux d'Agincourt (1730-1814) and Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-68). Conte Leopoldo Cicognara (1767-1824) was an artist, collector and historian, who had a brief political career in Napoleon's Cisalpine Republic at Turin from 1797-1802. Afterwards he settled in Venice, to devote himself to art, his large library being purchased by the Vatican in 1824.
