Notes
The author was latterly the County Surveyor for Kent, having previously been surveyor for several other counties, and is largely responsible for the shape of the county's roads and transport system, including early proposals for the building of the Dartford Tunnel. There are many interesting photographs of buildings, bridges and road schemes and also much fascinating detail. Chapman had many friends and acquaintances among the county's dignitaries and he mentions and provides photographs of many of them.
