FIRST ENGLISH EDITION THUS.8vo. 8 x 5.5 inches. 427 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has some edge wear and chips at head of spine with small missing sections onlower edges. Board extremities a little worn. Signature ir red on first free endpaper; otherwise a very good copy with clean interior. English translation of Ravages, a novel by French writer, Violette Leduc (1907-72), first published in France in 1955. At the time the first part of the original work, describing a lesbian relationship, was censored by labelling it as obscene. It was eventually separately published as a novella in 1966. In this translation it is published as a prologue, Therese and Isabelle, thus uniting both parts of the original Ravages. Her best known work was La Batarde (1964), a memoir, and there were several film dramatisations of her other, often erotic, writings:
