8vo. 8.5 x 6.5 inches. 22i pp. + xix pp. index. In red loose leaf folder, gilt, with 2 metal screws. Marbled endpapers. A little wear to extremities, sunning of spine and light staining of front board edge. A few scattered spots on contents, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Hand written label on front pastedown, Mr. Charters. Personal Copy and handwritten note at head of title, Fire Force Commander's Personal Copy. Occasional manual comments in text. Fire Commander's personal copy of the London Fire Brigade manual of Questions and Answers on all aspects of equipment, water supply, alarms, types of fires, etc. The Fourth Edition of April 1939, a few months before the start of the war. Aylmer Firebrace (1888-1972) joined the London Fire Brigade after wartime naval service, in 1919 and became chief officer in 1938. In 1941 he was appointed to lead the new National Fire Service and became head of all firefighting throughout Britain, until the local brigades were reinstated in 1947.
