Notes
The tenth edition of the popular guide to Liverpool, published by Thomas Kaye of Castle Street from 1807 to the mid-1840s (reprints of the12th edition). After an historical introduction, the guide provides a detailed account of the town's docks, public buildings, places of worship and charitable institutions, followed by surveys of the town and of its environs. An appendix prints extracts from the early civic records and private manuscripts with a chronological table of events in the town's history. Of particular interest is the newly added account of the construction and opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1830. Details are also given of foreign packets and steam navigation. The Stranger in Liverpool is copiously illustrated and both maps called for are present.
