Some wear to extremities, including head and tail of spine and foxing and browning of flyleaves; otherwise a very good copy. Gift inscription and bookplate on endpapers First edition of a collection of eleven reflections on Japan, which includes the essay, The Dream of a Summer Day. Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904) was a writer of Greek and Irish descent who spent his earlier career as a journalist in the USA. In 1890 he moved to Japan, where he worked and married a Japanese wife and became naturalised as a citizen of the country.
