Notes

A satire on the Duke of Marlborough, 'the Great Modern Colossus,' compared to his predecessor, Oliver Cromwell, the Oliver of the title. Published anonymously in 1711, it was replied to by A Pair of Spectacles for Oliver's Looking-Glass Maker. The third edition appeared in the same year as the second and the fourth in 1722. This second edition is scarce; ESTC records only four copies in UK libraries (British Library and Oxford and Cambridge) and seven in the US.
