8vo. 7.25 x 4.5 inches. [iv] + 235 pp. Text in French. Bound in decorated stiff boards with ornamental borders enclosing colour pictorial view / pattern on rear board, with gilt spine titles. Extremities worn at edges, flyleaves browned, and scattered foxing, especially at beginning and end, but otherwise a very good copy. Facsimile signature of publisher on verso of series title. School prize label, Boulogne, 1858 on front pastedown. Illustrated by frontispiece and by engraved title. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Accounts of famous shipwrecks. A volume in the Christian Schools Library series of the prominent Tours publishing house of Armand Mame et Cie. Dating back to the last quarter of the eighteenth century. It specialised in religious and family books. Mame concentrated all the activities of book production - printing, binding publishing and sales - in one business. Earlier editions of this title appeared in 1843-44, 46 and 52.
