FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo. 7 x 5.25 inches. xvi + 63 + [1] pp. Cream paper spine over grey boards, with black spine titles. Deckled edges. Spine sunned, some wear to extremities, fly leaves browned and a little edge foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Printed ownership label on front pastedown and Presentation Copy stamp on half title. Pencil notes in Greek. A selection of poems from the Greek Anthology, which was a collection of poems, mainly epigrams, based on two manuscripts of the tenth and fourteenth centuries. By James Rennell Rodd, 1st Baron Rennell (1858-1941), diplomat, poet and classical scholar. Educated at Haileybury and Oxford, he entered the diplomatic service in 1883 and served as British ambassador to Italy, 1908-19 and as MP for St Marylebone, 1928-32, before he was raised to the peerage. A scarce title.
