Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices at the London markets and Canterbury. Hop Intelligence from Southwark reports the prices of Kent and other hops sold at the famous Weyhill Fair in Hampshire. Under the heading Horrible Murders are given very graphic injuries sustained by the victims of housebreakers in Lincs and Essex. In Dover Street, Southwark an army officer is enticed into what turns out to be brothel, and after drinking, has his diamond pin torn from his shirt and is set upon by a mob. On a more harmless note a pious elderly lady in Cripplegate is the victim of a bizarre hoax whereby twenty five clergyman are invited to dine with her without her knowledge. In Derby a state trial of hundreds of rebels for treason is in preparation. In Kent two ladies in a one horse chaise were robbed of about £5 between Gravesend and Chatham by 'two Irish sailors', and 1 Cwt of unpacked hops were stolen from an oast at Ospringe.
