Notes
Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. Mr Cobbett addressed a Surrey county meeting on agricultural distress and the need for parliamentary reform held at Epsom., calling for a reduction in the national debt at the expense of the creditor: 'Where was the equity of giving the public creditor three bushels of wheat now for every one bushel which he had advanced to the nation? Ships building at Chatham ranged from the Royal George and Prince Regent both of 120 guns to the Rainbow of 28 guns and bomb vessels, Sulphur and Etna. A convict employed on stacking wood in the Dockyard used the elevation provided by the stack and a ladder to make his escape along the top of the wall.
