Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. This issue includes a table of the hop duties received for the different districts of England. An account is given of a voyage of exploration of the north coast of Australia, 'sailing among coral reefs of frightful appearance.' Further south New South Wales is experiencing 'the rapid dawning of commercial industry and refinement.' In South America General San Martin has liberated the city of Lima. In Kent the cattle ferry boat between Gravesend and Tilbury Fort was upset by a sudden gust of wind. The five men and twenty two of the twenty seven bullocks on board were saved by prompt assistance. A warder at one of the Sheerness Dockyard gates was apprehended at night in the act of taking up a pavement flagstone with intent to steal.
