Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and Hop Intelligence and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. 'The Cachemire Goats,' have arrived in Marseille after considerable losses sustained while the flock was being transported across the desert and the Mediterranean. The Navy and Ordnance estimates were debated in the Commons. In Kent it was proposed to light Canterbury by gas and to lay down water supply pipes, 'with plugs in case of fire' and provision for watering the streets in summer. The Eclipse steam packet arrived at Margate, for the first time, with four hundred passengers.
