Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. A letter from a Canterbury correspondent suggests the use of quick lime to eradicate the hop fly. Among the condemned attending a sermon in Newgate Chapel is 'a poor illiterate countryman', with a wife and four children, and wearing a smock frock, convicted of 'Bullock stealing.' his first offence. The same clergyman attended the execution opposite Newgate 'in the presence of a great crowd' and indeed gave the signal himself. In the Admiralty court the captain of the convict transport, Chapman, was charged with murder for shooting a convict, who had broken out of his irons. 'La Blonde, a fine frigate of 46 guns was launched at Deptford dock-yard.'
