Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Hop Intelligence and Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. The main news from abroad is the signing of a treaty at Aix-la-Chapelle under which the occupying powers of Britain, Austria, Russia and Prussia agree on the evacuation of their armies from the territory of France. At home prominence is given to the introduction of the new crown pieces featuring the classic design St. George and the Dragon by Pistrucci. A man in Bath is prowling the streets with a dog trained to pilfer silver spoons. In Kent the Maidstone to London coach overturned on the hill from West Malling into the Turnpike Road, seriously injuring the coachman and several passengers, the accident being put down to the poor state of the road.
