Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices at the London markets and Canterbury. Hop Intelligence from Southwark and Worcester reports the prices of Kent and Sussex hops: 'So extraordinary is the present price of Hops, that it is calculated that the sum paid to the planters of this County, for this year's growth, will amount upwards of a million sterling.' The problem of the Algerine corsairs is discussed at some length but even more columns are given over to reporting the Derby treason trails in the aftermath of the Pentrich Rebellion. In London 'an orphan sweep, aged 11 years' is suffocated in a hot flue above an oven 'through the culpable neglect of his master.' The vessel India is setting sail in conditions of some secrecy with about 250 half pay artillery officers for the island of Margarita, it is implied to assist General Boliver (i.e. Bolivar).
