Notes
Volume II only of the three volume set but complete in itself. First edition published 1862. Pagination sequence continues from volume I.
Copy lacks General map of Germany in pocket at end. The map of Belgian State Railways, p.583 and plan of Mayence (i.e. Mainz), p.692 are both listed but do not appear to have been printed in this edition. 64 maps and plans are listed but several more (i.e. Austrian State Railways, p.726 and South Austria Railways, p.730) are included without listing. Many of the maps and plans are double page and inserted as separate plates, others are paginated. It should also be noted that the total number of pages underestimates the true total as numerous cancel pages have been inserted bearing numbers in thirds and fifths, etc. There is one illustrated advertisement page inserted in the text, p.930.
A comprehensive guide for the late nineteenth century traveller to central and eastern Europe, the near east and Egypt, lavishly furnished with maps and plans, including a number of railway maps. Admirably fresh and clean interior.
