A Son of the Marshes is a pseudonym for Denham Jordan, a native of the North Kent marshes, and the work was a joint production by him and the editor, Jean Allan Owen (1841-1922); Owen, afterwards Visger, was a prolific natural history writer, who also edited several other natural history books by Denham Jordan.
