Notes

Lilian Whiting (1847-1942) was a US poet, born in Niagara Falls, New York, who after editing journals in Boston, spent much time in Europe. The collection of verses is dedicated to Kate Field (1838-96), a traveller, journalist and actress, described as possessing eccentric habits. This copy was owned by Leolyn Louise Everett (1888-1971), another US poet. The first edition was published in Boston in 1895.
