Large 8vo. 9.75 x 7.25 inches. xii + 406 + [1] pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, front board with black and gilt borders enclosing gilt ornament, rear boards with blind stamped borders and spine with gilt block. Recased, preserving original spine, with new endpapers. Bevelled board edges. All page edges gilt. extremities worn, including edges and corners, rear boards darkened and spine sunned. Occasional traces of foxing, but otherwise a very good copy with clean interior. 1876 gift inscription on verso of second free endpaper. Illustrated by 20 engraved plates. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Music notation in appendix. Descriptive account of Portugal, based on the author's travels in the country. Catherine Charlotte, Lady Jackson (1824-91), the wife of a diplomat, wrote extensively on the history of the French royal court.
