This title is a selection of the works of the author, soldier and courtier, Pierre-Victor de Besenval de Brünstatt, of Swiss origin (1721-1794). A favourite at the court of Marie-Antoinette, his health was ruined by imprisonment during the Revolution. These reprints include two of his best known romances, Le Spleen and Les Amans Soldats and eight other stories and are preceded by an historical and bibliographical account of the author and his works, by the editor, Octave Uzanne (1851-1931), a famous bibliophile, writer, publisher and journalist, whose research covered eighteenth century authors.
