Some wear to extremities with damage to front centre of board and gilt spine titles worn. Browning of flyleaves and scattered foxing, including preliminaries, which have small lower margin damp stain, but otherwise a very good copy. 1849 school prize label on front pastedown. Illustrated by engraved frontispiece protected by tissue guard. Decorated by title page, head and tailpiece vignettes an facsimile signature of publisher on verso of title, but otherwise a very good copy. School prize label, 1849 on front pastedown. Novel in the format of fifty three letters translated from the German. By Josephine Marie Anne Maillot (1806-86), French novelist, whose best known work was Adhemar de Belcastel.
