Bound in original green cloth, gilt, with company initials in red lozenge block on front board..A little sunning of spine and adjoining edge of front board, but otherwise a very good copy. Loosely inserted: letter of transmission of book from A. M. Borthwick, Chairman, and two items of Borthwick family wedding ephemera. Illustrated by 33 black and white photographic plates, including portrait frontispiece, by Thomas Borthwick and Sons Ltd. quotations printed in green and blue and by red line drawings in text, including whole page, chapter headings and preliminaries. Green map endpapers. A company history of Borthwicks in the meat trade, from an Edinburgh butchers shop to a key player in the frozen meat trade between Britain, Australia and New Zealand. The founder, later Sir Thomas Borthwick, Bart. (1835-1912) began to use refrigerated holds in sailing ships from the Antipodes in 1872, which revolutionised the trade.
