FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9.25 x 6.25 inches. viii + [ii] + 163 + [1] pp. Bound in half cream cloth over grey boards, with black titles and author's device on spine, in dust brown wrapper, with author's device in red on front and spine and publisher's advertisement on rear, which is sunned with a few edge chips, including at head of spine. Some light staining of spine, flyleaves browned and occasional scattered foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Neat signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 32 plates, including frontispiece, plans and portraits. and by 3 text figures. A collection of essays, whose subjects include John Evelyn, books, Italy and its theatres and Shakespeare. Edward Gordon Craig (1872-1966), illegitimate son of the actress, Ellen Terry, was an actor, director, designer and writer on theatre. Scarce copy in dust wrapper.
