8vo. 8.25 x 6 inches. [iv] + 275 pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt. Top edge red. Spine sunned and a little wear to extremities. Traces of foxing in margins, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 6 engraved plates, including frontispiece. Animal stories, with chapters including accounts of a lioness, a Marabou stork, a man child brought up in the wild, an elephant, an antelope and a crocodile. Translated from the French of novelist, Andre Demaison (1883, or 85-1956), Beautifully illustrated by French artist, Andre Durenceau (1904-85). Scarce First UK edition.
