Part One illustrated by 44 map plates and 61 figures; part 2 Two by 88 maps, all in black and white. A profusely illustrated survey of the Dutch navigators and explorers who discovered the Western and Northern coasts of Australia from 1601-44, including the two voyages of Abel Janszoon Tasman. By Austrian born Gunter Schilder (b.1942), historian and cartographer, who held the Chair of the History of Cartography of the Geographical Institute of the University of Utrecht, 1981-2004).
