Slight signs of wear to extremities but otherwise a very good set. Loosely inserted newspaper cuttings on Admiral Byng and naval book reviews and correspondence concerning Marcus, 1971-84, to Captain A. B. Sainsbury, whose signature is on the first free endpapers of both volumes.

It appears that no further volumes were published of those planned by the author, naval historian, Geoffrey Jules Marcus (b.1906). The correspondence included relates to attempts by Captain Sainsbury, the owner of the volumes, to establish further information about the author, especially on the matter of his deprivation of his scholarship at Keble College, Oxford and his subsequent expulsion 'because of his religion,' as narrated in the blurb to the second volume.
