Notes

A guide to the officers of the post-Trafalgar Royal Navy issued by the Admiralty-Office, 1 January 1811. The first list is arranged by rank and then by date of seniority; the second is a single alphabetical sequence by name, indicating rank and seniority. This two part list first appeared in 1758 (see ESTC) and seems to have been published until at least as late as 1845 (according to the holdings of the National Maritime Museum). It is less common than the small format Steel's Navy List published 1782-1814 (a list of officers, ships and establishments) and is principally designed to indicate seniority of rank. A scarce publication; COPAC lists an 1812 edition in the London Library, but there is no record for the 1811, other than in the British Library.
